Case Study
Control Panel Design & Build
Overview: Control panel design and build for a 200-foot conveyor system and control room. The panel controls 49 motors, ranging from 20HP to 0.5 HP, all connected through ethernet communications. The incoming 3-Phase, 480V AC is dropped down using a series of transformers and power supplies to single-phase, 24V DC to power all components within the panel.
Challenges: The biggest challenge was restricting the panel’s overall height and length to the physical limitations in the plant. This system requires 49 VFD controllers as well as other heat generating components so thermal management was also of concern. In addition, UL standards and product manuals require certain components to have minimum spacing so almost every inch of the backplate was designed for use.
Results: Success. The project delivered on-time, on-budget, and on-spec.
